The look they’d shared - as Cavendish turned slowly back, blue eyes tired and grateful and hungry, Bartolomeo’s just as heavy - said everything else, all that they wanted from the future, and the only reason they didn’t tear off what was left of each other’s clothes right there and then was the cannonball which promptly landed about two inches to their left.
