Mike is sitting at the desk that technically belongs to both of them but has, by unspoken agreement, become his. His typewriter is centered in front of him, a stack of slightly wrinkled paper to the left, a mug with cold coffee to the right, and his glasses sliding down his nose every few minutes.
The lamp is on low. Yellow light pools over the keys and his fingers.
He types carefully at first, then faster, then pauses, his fingers hovering over the keys shakily.

There’s something wrong with Will.
It started three weeks ago, almost four. Will had woken from some sort of nightmare and, instead of seeking comfort in Mike the way he usually would, he’d rolled out a sleeping bag from the closet and chosen to sleep on the floor.
No one believes Mike, except for Joyce. But even she doesn’t understand the full extent to which something is wrong with Will.

“More than that, actually,” Seba says. Smug bastard that he is. Mafuyu whips his head to stare at him, and he shrugs.
“—but that doesn’t mean we’re dating,” Shin finishes. Firm, to illustrate his point. Maybe that’ll make Mafuyu finally understand.
Seba studies him. He has very nice eyes, Shin suddenly realizes, dark and mysterious but mesmerizing all the same. But that’s not what’s important right now. What’s most concerning are his thoughts. What is he talking about?
“Are we not?” he says.
No, Seba and Shin aren't dating. That is, depending on which one of them you ask.

Summary
When Sylvain is six and a half and climbs to the top of a tower with no one’s hand in his, he realizes that each and every one of the people he loves has been born as a gift to something else. Dimitri was born for Faerghus, and Felix was born for Dimitri. Glenn was born for the royal family, and Ingrid was born for Galatea and for Glenn. He realizes, too, that what they’re for decides their future. Dimitri will lead them into a better world. Felix will guide his path, and Glenn will protect his life, and Ingrid will bind her future to theirs.
And Sylvain, who was born for the border, will stand in a watchtower. He will see the enemy before it comes, and he will keep Dimitri and Felix and Ingrid and Glenn safe.
