Luz sneaks into the castle in search of a book about portal magic that might just be her ticket home. Bad news: she gets caught. Good news: it's by Hunter, who isn't exactly her friend but isn't going to turn her in, either. Before he can get her out of the castle, out of his hair, and on her way, though, she ends up seeing something neither of them wanted her to see.
Or: Luz's fun portal fantasy adventure collides with Hunter's hellish domestic pressure cooker situation, and no one is happy.

This is how things had gotten messy with Luz: she has a much broader, much more flexible sense of the word rape.
She and Hunter fought about it, pretty recently. She pulled up a bunch of books and websites and organizations and told him that everyone in the world was in agreement that he was being a giant dickhead, and then he told her he didn't really care what a bunch of dumb humans had to say about the matter, and then she froze up completely and said, "Wait - Hunter, have you-?"
