It was near parting time for the family. Their horses were worn, the crossroads within eyesight. Two would go left, and two would go right. They bid farewell and good luck, and it would be a lie to say no tears were shed, spots of wet trampled beneath horse hooves.

One fic with two-ish plots years apart alternating each chapter, and inspired by a bunch of songs but namely "welcome home son" by radical face and "willow tree march" by the paper kites. (listen to them they're bops)

The night before the full moon is a rough mental time for Remus, when he can feel himself fading into the werewolf side. Luckily, he has his friends to pull him out of it, and they've got his back to comfort him when nail painting, something so mundane, still manages to go slightly awry.

Summary

As any wise traveler does, Phil takes his handgun out of the holster, and for good measure loosens his long knife in its sheath. It's clear around the sign, and the town is silent. All’s good.
Go in quiet. See what happens, says a little bugger in his head, so Phil sticks his arm straight in the air and shoots twice. The shattering booms ring through the evening air and destroy the deserted calm.
A horrible, guttural growling starts at the edges of the town. It feels like nausea and digs deep to Phil’s bones, and he’s braced for it. No one alive in this world can hold their own if they can’t stomach the pain of the dead. Philza keeps steady as the Others emerge.

Summary
Techno is wrestling with something deep inside him. Phil keeps silent, waiting for him to win, to look back with a new light.
“I didn’t…”
Phil recognizes the half-started sentence from before. He tilts his head to see into Techno’s face.
“I didn’t want you to see me. Here.” Techno’s free hand jerks up to knot its fingers in his bloodstained shirt. “Like…” His words trail off, hidden in an exhale. With sisyphean effort, he drags his gaze from the wood shavings to Phil’s face.
“...Like this.” Phil whispers for him.

There’s substance to anonymity. Infamy buzzes and dies and is ungraspable. If the legend of Technoblade ends on a body-laden field, perhaps the world won’t have to know. The legend can live on in untouchable infamy. He himself will be left to the solid earth.

“Do you remember?”
“Remember what?”
The battlefield is open, just as he likes it, thinned.
”The first night.”
“I remember the stars.”
“The stars. I remember them too.”
And at some point, the axe must stop swinging when there are no more trees to fell.
