It was a mistake to come back after July. He’s not even in the city proper, but in the settlements surrounding the wreckage. Without the city’s plants and supporting infrastructure they still cling to life, little cast-off satellites orbiting nothing. Civilizations waiting to be reclaimed by the desert. He’s not even sure why he came back, after all was said and done, since he’d already combed through every piece of wreckage worth searching and turned up with nothing.

“O-kay,” he says. He shuts his mouth. It’s not like he meant to bring up Lux’s family’s ridiculous wealth and influence; he doesn’t want to make her self-conscious. Although she probably thinks she’s the one making him self-conscious, which while considerate, ultimately presumes a level of ego that just isn’t there. Ezreal’s very secure. He can roll with the punches.
So later when they arrive at their reserved table at The Crystal Rose’s second floor dining terrace and walk right past Kayn and Yasuo, Ezreal lets that punch roll right off him.

His marred eye doesn’t match any pattern of mutation Singed has seen before, and Singed has seen plenty. He knows the runoff can distort flesh in a myriad of ways; many of them are fatal. With a wound like this, there is no way he should have survived. The infected skin crawls across the left side of his face, turning the skin ashy gray. The orange ring around his iris lights up his eye, a sharp contrast to the inky black seeping across the surrounding sclera. The wound should be much, much worse. It should have killed him. It shouldn’t be, by all accounts, as beautiful as it is.

The air on his tongue tastes thin, like the atmosphere from high up in the mountains. So unlike the gritty thickness of the undercity or even the saltwater breeze of Piltover. There are no scents here, no traces of pheromones to suggest an inhabited area. It’s pure. Untouched by humanity.
