It was a silly desire, he knew the other wouldn't freak out if he were gone for just a couple days, but it was a matter of courtesy— and also just the fact that he really wanted to tell his husband 'Good night, I love you.' Call him a sap.

"You took my bones too?!" Grian yelped, pointing accusingly.
After a startled look, Scar started to laugh. Hysterically. And Grian started to register what exactly he'd just said, and he couldn't help but snort, covering his mouth to laugh even as his eyes watered a little from stress.
Alright, alright. They could figure this out. Together. Probably.

Without any warning aside from a bit of a teasing smile, Scar picked Grian up by his waist to lift him onto the saddle. The other had laughed and squirmed, calling him a couple of names for the sudden action before he eventually settled, grinning. The grin fell soon enough though, Grian's wings pulled tight to his back as he haltingly suggested they should get a move on.
Scar stopped trying after that.

They would go and tell Tim, who would tell Sasha, and it would be rather like old times: the four of them charging recklessly into something bigger than they understood, and coming away with some wild memory of their recent escapade, or something new and terrible and grand to ponder, or the truth, or whatever it was they went looking for.
But Martin just said, “Jon, are you sure you’re feeling alright?” and Jon sighed.
