This time, Scar's smile visibly twists, turns into something bitter that Grian hasn't seen in his face before.
"It's okay, Grian," he says. "I'm comfortable here, you don't need to do this." Grian blinks, confused.
"I—do what?" Scar raises an eyebrow at him and tucks a strand of hair behind his pointed ear.
"You're being nice," Scar says, discarding a blue fabric. Grian privately agrees, it's gaudy. "And it's sweet, really, but I'm okay."
"Scar, that's not—" Grian shakes his head. "That's ridiculous! I'm not just being nice!"
Scar looks up at him from where he's folded on the floor, grasping at velvet, and he suddenly looks very small and very tired.
"Sure," he says, and the tone makes Grian bristle, despite himself.
"Scar," he says, trying to keep calm. "Why would I do that? When have I ever been nice to anyone just for the sake of it? You're my friend—scratch that, you're our friend!" Scar huffs a little laugh and Grian watches him, helpless. "I—where is this coming from, man?"

The Mile’s End is a rare flower found only in the four farthings of the Shire. While no one is certain when it was first recorded, it can be found in Hobbit art and embroidery patterns going back at least 500 years. The peculiar thing about mile’s ends is that they only bloom when in the presence of true love or rather, soul mates. In Hobbit culture, therefore, it is mainly used during wedding ceremonies. They are of particular importance to weddings between two brides or two grooms, for both relationship and flower are seen as precious and symbolic of Hobbit love for community and family in all forms.
Etymology: the name “mile’s end” is most likely derived from the Sindarin loth, meaning flower; mîl, meaning love; and henia, meaning understand. What originally was mîlothenia, became milothen and eventually milen. From there, Shire accent turned it into two separate Westron words: mile’s end.- Language:

“What?” Tommy said, his hand stilling in Benrey’s hair.
The advantage of having a generally monotone voice and not being super expressive was that usually, Benrey could bluff his way out of most of the stupid shit that accidentally came out of his mouth. “Wha?” They said, hoping Tommy would let it slide.
Of course, that advantage was usually negated by having a best friend who was well-versed in his idiosyncrasies and could definitely fill in the blanks to explain the wack thought process he just went on. “Did you just call Gordon a DILF?” Dammit. Tommy was laughing at them. What the fuck. 0/10, worst best friend moments. Uncalled for.
