Summary

Summary
There’s a certain quiet that falls over a house when a child comes home. Even when the child is no longer quite a child.

Dick floundered, searching for words that wouldn’t come. “I…” He thought of Catalina’s hands washing soap from his body, massaging his back, feeding him sweet strawberries one by one. “I… I had a girlfriend.”
It doesn’t matter if Dick always feels Catalina's hand on the back of his neck, or her breath ghosting against his lips. He needs Nightwing. He needs to do good. How else will he counterbalance the sin weighing on his soul? So he’ll lie to his brothers, to Bruce, to Alfred. He’ll even lie to his reflection in the mirror. Not to me.
There’s a new dangerous drug plaguing the streets of Bludhaven and it’s beginning to trickle into Gotham. Similar to opioids, and some deliriants, it has the capability to devastate both cities. But the most perplexing effect of the drug is the risks of detoxing from the drug.
At first, when Nightwing found reports of dead bodies showing up with trace amounts of the drug in their system, he assumed it was overdoses. But further studies of the drug have found that if those addicted to the drug go too long without taking another dose (around a 12 hour window), their body shuts down, ending with cardiac arrest.
With the stakes even higher, Nightwing jumps at the opportunity to investigate a tip he’d received about a new shipment coming in. He’d be fine without backup, the Bats in Gotham were busy handling an Arkham breakout and it was just recon. He was fine, that is, until he was caught and dosed with the drug during the ensuing fight.Now he needs to figure out how to find a cure, find and stop the main supplier of the drug, all while keeping his new accidental addiction from his nosy family. No biggie right? If only the withdrawals weren’t so fucking crippling.
