Stoick should have known better. While he didn't know much about his son-especially now-he knew the boy was clever. It should have been no surprise when a guard burst into the Council Meeting and revealed that Hiccup had escaped the cell Stoick put him in...hours after the boy was revealed to have saddled a dragon.
Hiccup is gone, and so is the beast.
They search, but do not find him. Berk falls asleep one night and awakens in the Great Hall, where the torches come to life and cast an image of their isle on the wall, from which floats Hiccup's voice, years younger.
AKA, Hiccup forfeited the final challenge, leaving Astrid with the right to kill the Nightmare. Story picks up in the Race to the Edge era, except Berk never learned the truth of dragons, no one knows how Hiccup really lost his leg, and stories of a hooded 'vigilante' riding a Night Fury have been long whispered...and Berk will see it all unfold.

Summary
When Elio tries crystal meth for the first time, he no longer feels haunted by the loss of Oliver or consumed with the self hatred he feels for letting Oliver affect his life so much despite not having even spoken to him in over a year. It all just falls away, leaving him feeling better than he ever has.
The high was incredible, like nothing he had ever felt. Everything, just everything fell away. He felt good, about himself, about his life, and his choices that lead him to this moment. He forgot about Oliver on the other side of the country. Oliver who he was always so aware of, was suddenly no trouble to him anymore. Nothing mattered except this moment and how he was feeling with this drug coursing through his veins. This is what had been missing. This could fill that hole in him that had been there since Oliver had left. This was everything.
A crossover between Call Me By Your Name and Beautiful Boy, though mostly relying on Nic Sheff's memoir "Tweak" to shape Elio's story.

The events in the next two years that follow the end of the book. For those who only watched the movie (which I haven’t yet, therefore I have no knowledge of how it ends and this is not based in it), here follows a quick explanation: Elio and Oliver meet again three times after that summer: one during Christmas in 1983, one in the States in 1996 for a drink at a hotel bar and one last time back in the summerhouse twenty years after their first encounter, just for a night, as he was passing through cities. The end of the book goes as:
❝Twenty years was yesterday, and yesterday was just earlier this morning, and morning seemed light-years away.
“I’m like you,” he said. “I remember everything.”
I stopped for a second. If you remember everything, I wanted to say, and if you are really like me, then before you leave tomorrow, or when you’re just ready to shut the door of the taxi and have already said goodbye to everyone else and there’s not a thing left to say in this life, then, just this once, turn to me, even in jest, or as an afterthought, which would have meant everything to me when we were together, and, as you did back then, look me in the face, hold my gaze, and call me by your name.❞Bookmarked by ling904
