“Why?” Hans scoffs. “Because I’m useless? A piece of noble scenery, good for a wedding or a ransom and nothing fucking else. If only I was a blacksmith’s boy, right? Or a Jew. No one would think twice about having me along then. We’d go off on this ridiculous suicide mission, and if I got caught, it wouldn’t fucking matter.”
Henry snorts. “That’s the dumbest thing that’s ever come out of your mouth. And I have a damned long list.” He takes a step forward, eyes liquid in the orange candlelight. “What do you think happens to soldiers in war, my Lord? To the peasants, and the bastards, and the blacksmith’s boys? The ones without blue blood and silver armour?”
“I –” Hans swallows. “I suppose –”
“No one has to worry about them getting ransomed, aye. But that’s because they get fucking killed instead. They get stabbed and gutted. Shot. Beheaded. Hanged.” Henry huffs a breath. Gentles. “I’m sure you’d make a fair corpse, Sir Hans, but I’d rather not test that theory.”Bookmarked by linvio05

Summary
Seventy years ago, Steve met the woman who shared the same soulmark he did. The two had a whirlwind romance but it was not to last. Steve Rogers, Brooklyn nobody is chosen to become Captain America, the guiding hope for a world at war. All of that ended though, when Steve took the Tesseract into the ice. A hero lost to time, and a love lost to death.
Only that's not what happened.
Fast-forward seventy years, and Steve's woken up by SHIELD. The war might have been won, but a new war has already started and the world needs its guiding hope back.

Summary
No one's really been okay since the invasion ended. Artemis is back on the Team and back to school in Central City, M'gann and Connor are helping the Team stay afloat, Roy's quit the business to take care of Lian, and Dick has retreated back to Blüdhaven.
With all this, everyone can't help but notice how Kaldur's reacting to the last year of trauma, and to it finally being over.
Or, in better words, how he's not reacting.
(This is a story told through communications logs, security camera transcripts, and letters home that were never sent. It is a story about recovery and redemption, about heroes and what it really means to have sacrificed everything to save the world.)
