She showed up at Kris’s door with her hood up and her tail twitching, smelling like smoke that wasn’t hers. She had one of her mother’s old flannels tied around her waist, the sleeves long and dragging. Kris didn’t ask. Just stepped aside.
Toriel, from the kitchen, poked her head out and said only: “Shoes off, dear. I just mopped.”
Like Susie belonged there.
Like she wasn’t a guest anymore.
Kris gave her the couch and curled up on Chariel. Susie protested, at first—“It’s your damn house, dude,” she said, “I can sleep on the floor, I’ve done it before”—but Kris was already half-buried in blankets and completely silent, which meant the conversation was over.
At some point, when the house had gone completely quiet and the shadows settled, Susie whispered:
“Hey.”
Kris shifted their head to look at her.
The moonlight caught her hair, the jagged edge of her teeth. Her eyes were clearer than they ever were at school. No posturing. No sneer. Just Susie. Bare and real in a borrowed T-shirt, her knees pulled up, her voice a rasp.

Xiao lifts his head slightly from where it rests in Venti’s palm, smiling at the sound of his name from Venti’s lips. “Yeah?”
It is still the same smile Venti had fallen in love with over burnt eggs. It’s the same smile, but somehow, it’s a little more worn, a little more tired. It is a smile that looks like it has loved a little too much at all the wrong times, and it is now fractured at the corners and seams.
“This isn’t making you happy anymore, is it?” he asks gently.

Aether didn’t know why Venti was the first name that came to mind when Tubby explained he could invite companions into his teapot. It was a testament to how exhausted he had been lately, but Aether just wanted that feeling of lightness and serenity that he’d come to associate with a particular anemo user. Freedom followed him around along with the currents of the wind.
Maybe it was the way that being around Venti felt like flying, but Aether was on his way to the Windrise Statue of the Seven before he could think any better of it.

Finally, Venti turns, and their eyes lock immediately. Both of their hearts stop for just a moment, time around them seeming to still as recognition flickers and flames between them. Venti is hardly audible when he utters his name, but Xiao can hear him as if he's loud and clear, right next to him, the single word carried across the wind as softly as a sigh against his cheek.
