“Over the moon, har fucking har,” Remus huffed into his cup of tea in a long-suffering tone well-honed on James Potter’s horrendous early morning jokes.On November 22nd, 1980, Remus Lupin gets his left leg almost clawed off by his personal nightmare Fenrir Greyback. The aftermath has Sirius and James reeling with the realization that he has been carrying out trips to various werewolf packs for Dumbledore, not running off to Voldemort's shadows, along with all the consequences following thereafter.

The last time Sirius had seen Remus, Sirius had willed him to say all sorts of things, but all he'd said was "I have a job," and Sirius said "Okay, be safe." He had wanted to say much more, himself, but what could he say? "Sorry?" He wasn't sorry! And if it wasn't "sorry," what was it, and what would that conversation have even led to? And, in any case, there was no time to get into anything anyway, because Remus had a job to get to, and when was there ever time anymore, so he just let Remus walk out the door and spent the rest of the day tinkering uselessly with the motorcycle and high out of his mind, muttering under his breath to himself about how annoyed he was about the entire situation like a crazy person.

Sirius hasn't seen Remus in fucking months so he takes it into his own hands to find him, because he'll be damned if Remus avoids this conversation any longer.

Summary
The topic of Remus's disappearances had become something of an inside joke to the other marauders. They'd long accepted that Remus was never going to tell them where he was really going all the time, so they amused themselves by coming up with increasingly outlandish scenarios to explain his mysterious monthly journeys from the castle.
One day they confront Remus with one of these theories, expecting him to laugh and shake his head like he always does. Instead, they find out far more than they ever expected to.

“Sirius!”
Sirius jumped, looking up from the letter in his hands and scowling when he saw Regulus standing next to his chair. “Reg,” he said distastefully. "I expect you know what this is all about, then?" He held up the howler. “Been dobbing on me to mummy, have you?"
“No.” For once, Regulus wasn’t wearing the displeased sneer that he normally adopted any time he was forced to speak to Sirius. Instead he looked pale and frightened, and he glanced around anxiously before speaking again in a hushed voice. “I didn’t have anything to do with this. But you’re about to be in really big trouble, Sirius.”
Sirius felt his annoyance fade, cold dread taking its place. “...What kind of trouble?”
Regulus gulped. “... I tried to reason with Mum,” he whispered. “I tried to tell her to wait ‘till you got home to talk to you about it, but she’s just so livid-”
“Regulus, what kind of trouble?” Sirius repeated, his rapidly-growing panic causing his voice to raise.
"Over holiday break, they had Kreacher search your room.” Sirius froze, feeling all of the colour drain from his face. Oh, Godric, no.

Summary
Once James had noticed Remus’ superpower he couldn’t stop. It was like magic. Well, actually it was more impressive since they were constantly surrounded by magic and most of that was entirely useless – if not counterproductive – when it came to keeping Sirius out of trouble. It was small things, like asking Sirius to lend him a quill, making sure Sirius was taking notes in class, stopping him from jumping out the fifth-floor window (“I want to see if I’ll land on my feet”, “That’s cats, Padfoot”). Alright, perhaps not so small things too.
Nothing gets past James Potter – he is a master detective, and what’s more these are his best friends. Recently he’s noticed Sirius does everything Remus tells him to, even if Remus continues to deny it. But there’s something more to it, James is sure. If only he could figure out what.
Or, James discovers Remus’ superpower.

"I'm gonna-" James starts, turning around on the ledge. "I'm gonna say something, and you've gotta tell me if I'm being a tosser, 'kay?"
"You know I will." Remus chuckles. He can't summon the strength to look at James, preparing to be run raw by another one of James' quirks. He's too kind, their Jamie, too caring, too boldly emotional. It's going to be the death of them all, Remus is sure of it.
"If I could, Moony, I'd move all of us out to the country today and cast a vanishing charm." James' voice wavers, falling on Remus' ears softly; no longer straining his headache. "It's so fucking scary. You should see the Auror office- we're in shambles."
Remus picks his head up, and catches James' hand darting away from under his glasses. His heart breaks, just as he knew it would, and he reaches out for Prongs' hand.
"If I could I'd take us, and Lily, and Marly and Dorcas and Mary- and everybody's families and hide," James' voice breaks, and Remus squeezes his hand. His high has forgotten him, amidst the emotion. "God, I'm such a coward. But I'd do it."
"Why can't you?"-
In the year after Hogwarts, and before the turn of the decade, Remus desperately wishes he could run away.

Oh, how Remus wants to kiss him, with bright grey eyes staring up at him and lips parted just slightly so. It would be so easy, he thinks, to lean down and place his lips upon Sirius’s. He can imagine a braver version of himself doing it, one that’s not afraid. But that’s not him; he is afraid. Scared that the tenderness he holds in his heart for this boy would tear their friendship apart, ripping it at the seams.
So he runs his hand through Sirius’s hair instead, a poor substitute that does nothing to ease the aching in his chest.
Or; Remus is in love, Sirius is in love...one would think they could get it together.

Sirius had kissed him back a sloppy mess, all tongue and gritty stubble, but Remus had helped him refine it over the months to come, when they'd kissed and kissed and kissed like they got the breath of life from each other's lips. Nobody knows Remus like Sirius does, knows his heart and mind and body and soul, his fears and insecurities, his hopes and dreams and desires. Nobody can pull Remus out of his head, can put him in touch with his body, can challenge his intellect and ideas like Sirius can.
Sirius is his everything.
What if, after all this, it's been nothing but a lie?
An unexpected discovery causes Remus to question what he knows, but not everything is as it seems.
