Zorya and Ioakim Fenya, Ghostwise halfling twins, leave their idyllic (boring) family farm behind to make new lives for themselves in the big city, Gadormina. Ioakim’s talent for magic leads him to the magic shop, run by the prominent businessman Florian. Florian gives him a job and a place to stay, as well as the tools to start his magical education.
His sister Zorya has no such pedestrian ambitions. She wants to join the Thieves’ Guild, and it doesn’t take her long to find them - or at least, one of the Guild’s training schools: Sylvia’s Magpies. Both the twins settle into their new lives, until disaster strikes...
