"Hey, thing two!" Chim calls out from the patio doors, pointing back out to the backyard. "Can you come over here and rescue thing one from the girls? Bobby says he hasn't had any food yet and I'm not willing to get in between Buck and his uncle time." Chimney air-quotes, exasperated.
Eddie scoffs, rolling his eyes. "Why am I thing two?" He asks, offended, though Eddies filling up a second plate the moment Maddie hands him one. His own plate is abandoned, baked goods laid to the side. "Shouldn't it be the other way around?"
Chimney shrugs. "Eh details, Buck joined the 118 first—and I'm pretty sure you don't want me referring to him the way Hen does on your behalf." He teases, waggling his eyebrows.
Eddie flushes, looking away from Maddies inquiring expression while he clears his throat. "Uh—yeah, yeah no, don't use that word—I'll be right there."

Bucks still trying to unstick his tongue from the roof of his mouth. "I—" He closes the fridge, stepping closer to Eddie. He has a million questions, his first being if Eddie has pictures and the second, if he can see them. "Why'd you stop?" He asks instead.
Eddie shrugs, but it's not non-nonchalant, the collected, relaxed response Eddie wants it to be. It's jerky, the motion stiff as he does it—the set of his spine, shoulders, body, it's…sad.
"It wasn't fun anymore." He replies, simple as that.

"Buck?" Eddie calls, voice soft and hoarse in the quiet of the hallway. Eddie, who Buck knows is only half-awake, sleep rumpled clothing and mussed hair, eyes squinting in the dark because Buck hadn't bothered to turn on a lamp.
Buck doesn't respond. Can't.
"Hey," Eddie blinks, frowning and moving towards him. "Hey—Buck, are you okay?"
His feet are rooted to the floorboards, muscles paralyzed as he stands at the edge of the hallway, too exhausted to take another step, too wired off adrenaline and shock to do anything but stare at Eddie.

Eddie gently grabs Bucks wrist, stopping him from pushing into the booth after Karen and Ravi, sliding in himself before finally motioning for Buck to sit in the free space.
Buck does so, but not before tilting his head in question, a vaguely amused smile resting on his lips. "What was that about?"
"You can stretch your bad knee out of the booth like this," Eddie explains, like Bucks heart isn't trying to beat its way out of his chest, like it's not trying curl up in Eddies lap like a satisfied cat in a patch of afternoon sunlight. "So you're not uncomfortable all night."
"Oh. Uh, thanks—thank you." Buck stammers.
or - evan buckleys half-assed attempt to run from the chasm of love that has eddie diaz’s name engraved in it—even if maddie and chim are doing their level best to throw him into it, where it be it willingly or with Buck kicking and screaming the whole way there.
