It’s raining again. It’s always raining when he comes to New York. Jungkook hears a gasp the same moment something painfully pokes between his shoulder blades.
The stranger looks up, his eyes slightly unfocused. He shakes his head and the wet strands of black hair send little splashes all over Jungkook’s face. He doesn’t mind. He keeps staring at the mis-matched eyes with his mind pleasantly quiet. The stranger returns his gaze, frowns a little, and takes out a small umbrella.
“Don’t walk under the rain like that.”

“I said no matter where I went, I would find a dock like this so we could still look at the moon together with our toes in the water.”

Jungkook’s chest vibrates with his quiet laughter. “I’m just saying. That will be true even if we fall in love with different places.”

Summary
There’s something bugging Taehyung, like a heavy blot on the corner of his vision. The blot shifts, takes a drink, and Taehyung looks over and realizes with a jolt that it’s Jeon Jungkook. He’s standing there at the end of the swing, looking down, and maybe it’s weird to think of someone as alone at a party like this, but it somehow seems like he is.
“You guys remember Jungkook?” Hoseok asks sweetly. And Taehyung just blinks at him, because that’s like asking if he remembers the moon, or the existence of fireworks, or the Bengal tiger.
“We sure do,” Jimin says, not sweetly. Jungkook nods at them, but he only briefly makes eye contact. Taehyung registers that he looks older, his jawline sharper.
“How’s your summer?” Taehyung asks him uncertainly.
“Fine,” Jungkook says.
