George looks up at him, glowing in the dim kitchen light. “Back,” he corrects softly, leaning against his unoccupied arm.
“Back,” Dream repeats, and he looks down at George. “I feel like I need to make the most of you being here. Doesn’t seem like it’s real.”
“I know,” George tells him, because that’s exactly how he’s feeling. “But we have all the time in the world. If that's what you want.”

George wakes up slowly on the morning of the fourteenth; Dream presses kisses to his cheeks and he whispers in his ears, and George is tugged out of sleep and into the crook of Dream’s neck where he presses a bright smile.
George tangles his fingers in Dream’s curls. “What’re you doing?”
“Lovin’ you,” Dream mumbles, trailing kisses down George’s neck and across his collarbones. “Don’t you remember what day it is?”
George laughs, feeling giddy. “Hm,” he says, “I dunno. Remind me?”
“I am reminding you,” Dream says, and George can hear the smile in his voice.

“I guess I can’t hide my love for you,” Dream says, and he looks back at George. “I also won’t apologise for it, because I haven’t been trying very hard.”
George twitches his lip, clearly trying to hide a smile and failing. “Yeah, I know you haven’t,” he says, leaning in closer. “You’re taking me home to meet the family, baby. That’s very telling.”
God, Dream thinks, I’m so fucking in love. And he whispers, “I couldn’t keep it in.”
George’s breath ghosts across Dream’s lips, and he presses a kiss right to the corner, almost gracing his cheek. “Mhm,” George murmurs, “I know.” And he kisses Dream’s neck. “You’re lucky you’re so cute.”
[Or, George is finally home for Christmas, and he and Dream are in love.]

“Well you’re not sleeping on it either,” Dream insisted. “So you either take my offer and I can sleep on the couch, or we both stay here in my room and share my bed.”
George blinked once. Then twice.
“What?” He let out, shyly taking his hand away as he looked at his friend with slightly widened eyes, surprise and confusion in his features. The American shrugged in response.
“I mean, it’s a big bed…”
“You’re serious?” He questioned, despite knowing the answer. The blond instantly nodded. He let out a soft sigh. "I can’t tell you to sleep on the couch, Dream…”
“Then we share,” his friend mumbled, shrugging again. Like it was that easy for him, like the answer was simple.
George was too tired, and couldn’t think of any other solution. So he didn’t.
“Okay,” he mumbled, nodding just once.
“Okay,” the boy said back, mimicking his gesture.
And that was that.
Then a new routine of interactions was quick to be born.

“George,” Dream breathes out, and he can feel George’s lips curling into a smile as he halts his sucking. “I don’t wanna meet people with a mark on my neck.”
“L,” George says as he pulls back from Dream’s neck, grinning at him. “You hate me. Just say it.”
Dream, never able to joke with George about this, can’t help but argue back. “No, I love you.”

He’s been here for months now. Sometimes it feels like he was born in this house, and sometimes he still wonders when he’s meant to leave. There’s part of him still that is so certain that this isn’t going to be forever, because forever is an unspeakable promise and an unknowable reach. Another part of him thinks he made that promise the first time Dream extended a verbal hand, excitedly telling him I’m gonna blow up; come with me.

They had been sitting in their living room, Dream worrying aloud about how the sleeping arrangements would go and picking the skin from his nail when George interrupted him.
“Don’t be silly. They can just use my bed and I’ll sleep with you or something.” He’d even reached over and gently slapped Dream’s hand to stop him from picking at his nail, a habit he had gotten into from the first time he had seen Dream doing it in person and frowned wordlessly at the action.
And, before Dream could even begin to question him, Karl had loudly barged into the room and announced his presence, deferring the conversation for another time.
And that’s how they had gotten here, to Dream awkwardly standing in the doorway of his ensuite bathroom, with his teeth freshly brushed and his face washed, unable to do anything but watch George where he was already comfortably lying on his side in Dream’s bed, scrolling through something on his phone.

George catches himself smiling at his screen and almost feels embarrassed by how little it’s taken for his mood to shift. For whatever reason the employee’s friendliness is contagious, and George no longer feels quite so irritated. It’s almost possible to forget about his shattered laptop screen and the plethora of issues it’s going to cause him within the next week, now that talking to the employee has begun to feel like he’s just talking to a friend.
