The picture is leaked on a random fucking Tuesday in November, months after Ilya was last in Montreal.
Grainy and dark, enhanced digitally to shit but still just recognisable enough; Shane Hollander smiling dopily as a broad-shouldered man in a dark hoodie has him pushed up against a red brick wall, one knee lifted to hook around the back of a thigh, a large hand possessively holding it in place as the hooded figure has his face hidden in the crook of Hollander’s neck — presumably kissing him there, intimately.
Ilya knows his team is good, and they do the best they can.

Author’s Note:
This started as a character exploration, a way to get a little more fully in between the lines of the script. When I was watching the show, I acknowledged that my responses in their conversations would have been completely different than how their exchanges were going, and that made me wonder… could I still dig into their thoughts, how they responded to information and processed it and engaged with the world? What about those things made them click so well with each other?
That, plus a thought in my mind of Scott Hunter becoming the league’s unofficial gay dad, came together to make this story. And listen, I have no idea what happens in the books. This is purely, simply, off of two rewatches of the series, and a few Google searches about hockey and Russian translation. Please feel free to read the shifts to Ilya's 3rd POV in Connor's Russian accent, which is how the words came out as I wrote them.

Well shit. Of course one of the rookies had to notice, those morons never let anything go.
So now everyone and their fucking mothers had turned to stare at Troy who could only let out an awkward laugh.
Well this sobered him up.
"Harris probably wasn't the first guy he slept with you idiot, he grew up playing hockey maybe it was an old teammate," Holmber said to Young whom he was still currently draped over.
"Nooo papa Hazy said professional hockey player, so it has to be someone in the league," Young argued back. The rookies had all taken to calling Wyatt variations of dad and followed him around like a bunch of baby ducks. Troy woulda laughed at the endearing nickname was he not about to get his shit rocked by a 6' 3'' Russian in the parking lot.
Because of every hockey player Troy Barrett could've slept with he just had to hook up with Shane mother fucking Hollander.
