"Ratio," Aventurine begins slowly, cautiously in a way that makes Ratio feel even more weary, "I'd like you to meet my sister."
In which Aventurine asks Ratio to play the role of his lover in front of the ghost of his deceased sister.

Aventurine, his roommate, the man he only occasionally speaks to for more than minutes at a time, leans over in their shared bed, and kisses him. A brief peck, leaving Veritas no time to react and his world spinning.
"Wait." He says firmly, giving his roommate pause. "Why did you do that?"
Aventurine snorts, and his lips twitch like he's trying not to smile. "You told me you love me. You don't remember?"
The air knocks itself out of Veritas' lungs. "I…I what?"
The countdown to one Veritas Ratio telling his roommate that he loves him, and the days after.

He doesn’t know how long he stands here, knees shaking, eyes rolling back into his head, hands gripping the slot machine for purchase. Every sound he had tried so hard to choke back before slips from his lips with horrifying ease, though he knows it will only fuel Ratio more for he is driven by Aventurine’s moans and pleads for more.
That has not happened.
But it will.
Stars die and worlds spin一these are absolutes, and the world is full of them.
And Aventurine begging is one of them.

Summary
The languid sweep of a broom; the textured turn of a page. A melody Kaveh doesn’t recognize overhead, barely audible, notes of a piano suggesting a moment out of time yet residing congruently. Something that would play in the quiet of one’s kitchen once a night of entertaining has ended, the cleaning has finished, and all that’s left is the fading echo of companionship and the gentle temptation of a warm bed.
Kaveh pauses in his cleaning. If Alhaitham caught his stare, it would definitely give him away—it’s missed, thankfully, thus Kaveh permits his gaze to take its time. Alhaitham’s got that dent between his brows again; something in his book must be vexing him.

Ratio lets out a hiss of pain, pressing his other hand to the wound. Aventurine knows that won’t help.
It’s too late. He knows this, feels it in the bones that protect his heart.
Ratio turns, and Aventurine can already see the beads of sweat at his temple. He can already see the way Ratio’s skin is turning pale and sallow before his very eyes.
Of course, of course, of course. There was never any other way this could go.
When Ratio gets injured, Aventurine makes his peace with losing the doctor.
