KIM KITSURAGI — He looks out through the window. It doesn’t face the sky, it’s only the obscured vision of the small alley. “I don’t doubt you wanted it, detective.”
EMPATHY [Challenging: Success] — He’s not sure he has the words—or better, he has them, but he’s afraid they sound too clinical, too palliative. He’s not sure what you need right now.
KIM KITSURAGI — “That’s not how anything works, unfortunately.”
HALF LIGHT [Challenging: Failure] — What does he know about how things work? About how you work?
YOU — “You don’t understand, Kim.” There’s something wet in your face again. “I don’t think I’ve *wanted* to stop before.” You wipe your cheeks with the back of your hand. “Jean said—did you know? Apparently I said to him—’I don’t want to get better. I want to get worse’. If this is what wanting to get better gets me—what’s the point?”
