Ilya leaned over to sniff Shane as he had sniffed the others. He inhaled again in surprise. Shane smelled wonderful. There was almost no smell of fear on him at all. Instead he smelled of ice and a warm spice that Ilya couldn't identify. It was… addictive.
"You. I pick you," Ilya said.
"Uh, what," Shane asked.
"Are you not an option?"
"No, I am, I just didn't think… are you going to eat me," Shane asked.
"Well I hope not, but we will have to see," Ilya responded. Yuna did not like that response and started to protest.
"Mom," Shane said, cutting her off. “We agreed, for our protection.” He turned to address Ilya. “I will go with you, Rozanov. But, if I am still your companion in 10 years, you will recast this circle for free. Is that fair?"
"Sure," Ilya said, doubting he would last that long.
