Summary
The cold press of Cheng Xiaoshi’s lips against his exposed skin elicits a shock from Lu Guang; a reminder. As Cheng Xiaoshi’s affection travels from his neck to his jawline, Lu Guang takes a moment to remind himself of the present; he’s in the photo studio, safe, and Cheng Xiaoshi is by his side and currently expressing his affection with each delicate peck on his skin. And once that moment is over, Lu Guang lets out a disapproving groan.

Every once in a while he catches a glimpse of himself, away from the cameras. In the moments where the unrest thrumming under the surface of his skin becomes too much. For as long as he can remember, deep-seated guilt smears his reflection: the raw, assailable image of Xia Fei.
He never notices when his breath first becomes uneven and his skin becomes clammy when he looks at himself for too long. With a deep breath, he does his best to shift back into the mirage everyone is expectant of him to be. -

“Stay,” Lu Guang says. It is quiet and timid, the demeanor that he will only show to the world (no, not the world, just one person) when his stony and prickly layers are peeled back far enough to reveal it. Then, gentler, he says, “stay here and rest, Cheng Xiaoshi.”

Lu Guang’s concern for his wellbeing stirs something in Cheng Xiaoshi’s stomach. “Don’t worry about that,” he says, but no, that is an actual cause for worry, he supposes. “If you go rogue or anything, I’ll probably just tie you to the bed.”
Lu Guang falters at his semblance of a joke, and Cheng Xiaoshi uses this to his advantage. “Have my blood, Lu Guang. It is the least I could do for you in return.”
Cheng Xiaoshi, a vampire hunter, finds himself in the care of Lu Guang, a vampire, one night. It somehow makes sense that in that one and only night they spend together he finds himself charmed by him.

His consciousness wanes. He supposes it is better this way.
Suddenly, the harrowing sensation of bleeding out begins to feel a bit comforting.
Lu Guang, his thoughts, and the events of going against time to protect those he loves— even if he loses himself in the process.

Lu Guang is starting to believe that something is wrong. Wrong with him.
Wrong, how? He asks, but he’s not stupid— he feels it each and every time, feels the way how his heart thuds in his ears, feels the sudden breathlessness and forgotten words, feels how every nerve in his body tightens, feels his blood run hot, and he always, always only feels that way around—
He hears a loud pop and fizzing sound coming from the kitchen, acquainted by an ear-splitting and unrestrained “Fuck!”
Wrong like that.
Lu Guang has never been so thankful that the shop is closed.
Or, Lu Guang as he struggles with the guilt and denial of falling in love with his best friend.

Being with each other is just enough.
And for a short while, it’s as if all of their worries have left them, almost like an unknown truce, because maybe even their worries are aware of how much they needed this.
