Mairon regards him for a few seconds, silently, standing before him bright and golden, puddles forming around him as his hair melts onto the ground.
Then, he speaks again: “I have seen you before. In a dream, I would think.”
Celebrimbor scoffs. “You truly do still take me for a fool. Maiar do not sleep, do not dream. You are tethered. But you have seen me in truth. You needn’t pretend.”
Mairon steps closer. A golden drop from his hair lands on Celebrimbor‘s foot, only clad in an open-toed leather sandal, but surprisingly it does not burn. It feels almost cool on his skin. Celebrimbor wants to step back, but doesn’t.
“What else would you call it, seeing with your eyes closed? A memory, or a vision?”
