Dove was loyal, at the very core of her, where her heart, her soul, would be, there was loyalty. Or- no, that wasn't quite true. Where her heart would be, there was empty space, a hollow void, a dead star. A wilted flower. Her soul, though, the fabric of it, was woven with threads dipped in, soaked in, spun from loyalty.
She hadn't gotten to be a knight- part of the royal family's personal guard- with luck and skills alone. Her unwavering loyalty- to the people, to the kingdom, to the crown- that was what had gotten her this far.
Her heart had proven untrustworthy. It wasn't something she intended to follow again.

The memory of it is already slipping through your fingers like sand as you try to recall specifics. But the residual anxiety of it persists in an uncomfortable tightness across your shoulders, a prickle along your forearms that you have to rub away with your palms.
As quietly as possible, you scoot out from under the blankets and push your way out of the tent to go and sit beside the banked coals of the campfire.
Where you had expected solitude, though, you instead discover you’re not alone in your late-night vigil.

“I love you.” Albedo says for the first and final time, his curious ears assessing the way it echoes off dank, stone walls.
It sounds rather unremarkable.
Or: a young Albedo, a parched curiosity, and the fangs that follow.

The two were sat in the rather extravagant lounge area of Rhinedottir’s home. It had taken an absurd amount of begging for Alice to convince Rhinedottir to indulge in a few drinks with her. She was meant to be celebrating after all. The creation of a fully functioning flower out of near nothing seemed like it would demand several bottles of wine in celebration even if Rhinedottir’s goal of creating an actual human was still far out of reach.
