"four of swords," yoongi says quietly. the air around them is heavy. yoongi barely notices namjoon watching from his desk. he's already become too entranced. "upright, it represents rest. recovery after a time of struggle and loss." he trails his fingertips against the paper. "reversed, it represents exhaustion. you have a deep restlessness within you, so you keep walking. you keep pushing forward, relentless, even as your body and mind beg for a break."
yoongi looks up abruptly, breaking through the pin-drop silence that has formed. "it's a double-edged sword," he says with a laugh, tapping the swords above the figure's chest. "it shows both what you face and what you need. your drive has gotten you this far, but it's ground you into the dust." spinning the card around on the table, he presents it, upright, to jeongguk.
"you need to rest. you need to stop for a while."
seeing a break in the conversation, namjoon steps closer to the table. jeongguk glances up at him as he approaches, face unreadable but tension sitting in the line of his shoulders.
"do you have a place to stay?" namjoon asks.

"come on, jeongguk, the clown is coming," yoongi says urgently.
"don't say it like that," jeongguk wails, looking sick.
"come on!" yoongi says, pulling on his arm. jeongguk groans and finally starts moving, physically shrinking behind yoongi as another clown appears to their left, and then another to their right. they are hemmed in on all sides by clowns, the circus music growing ever louder as they walk, broken laughter filling the air. the clown to their left is carrying a mutilated puppet. yoongi tries his best to breathe.
"fuck, fucking shit, fucking god in heaven," jeongguk mutters, head down, eyes fixed firmly on the floor. "fuck, yoongi, fuck, hurry up."
"i'm trying," yoongi snaps. "there's fucking clowns everywhere!"
