That one decision opens the floodgates of emotions that Chris didn't even know he had.

    “Anyway, even I know this is bullshit. We were in art class together when we heard about Pearl Harbor? When did I ever go to art class with you? And it was a fucking Sunday. You were probably at church or something. Right?” Bucky looks uncertainly at Steve, his brow furrowing.

    Steve’s heart clenches in his chest and feels a surge of anger at all those people out there who know nothing about them, who have built a universe up around versions of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes that never existed, who have made Bucky doubt his own fragile memories.

    Steve hesitates, reading back over what he’s typed. It’s stupid as hell, and he cringes, but he doesn’t backspace. His fingers find the keys again.

    I miss you something awful. I don’t think that even encompasses how much I’m hurting without you. I feel so lost right now-- space is much bigger and scarier than you’d think. I know you’d love it. I wish you could see bits of it, but god, I just want to go home. I want you to come home.

    'The demon leaned forward, resting his elbow and forearm on the table. “Since you obviously don’t know how this works, let me tell you that without a binding circle to contain me, I am instead bound to the summoner.” He paused, possibly waiting for a reaction from Steve, but Steve was completely out of his depth, caught up on the fact that the apparent demon he’d summoned was absolutely fucking gorgeous and standing in Steve’s kitchen like a delicious slice of improbability. “That’s you, champ.”
