Gina studies her, eyes tracing her features with caution, as if she could break her with one longing stare. She’s seen her best friends face thousands of times, but her realization of feelings has made every time feel brand new. She notices the way Nini bites her lip, eyes flicking around the room. She watches the way her hands run across her legs, a nervous habit she picked up from Gina. The pair make eye contact and Nini immediately looks away.
Gina tilts her head, “Is everything okay? You seem nervous.”
Nini rings out her hands, avoiding eye contact, “I have something to tell you.” -

“I think I’m in love with you, darling,” Connor sighs, repositioning himself as he cuddles with Luke.
Luke looks down at him and smiles, “Really?”
Connor looks up, “Yeah.” He moves to connect their lips. Luke kisses him back, interlocking their fingers. Luke’s mind momentarily flashes to Hanna and he pulls away. Connor frowns, “Is everything okay?”
Luke shakes the thought from his brain, nodding, “Yeah, babe, of course.”
Connor smiles, “Okay.”

The day after his seventeenth birthday, Benny Weir takes the fifty dollar bill he got from his uncle, goes to the drugstore, and buys as much makeup as he can fit in his messenger bag. When he gets home he spreads it over his bed and stares at it for longer than he cares to admit, holding it in his hands, taking it out of the package and then putting it back like it burned him. He hides it in the back of his closet under a box of old comic books that he knows no one will ever go in, mumbles a protection spell under his breath. Safe and sound.
