The call to the station came in at 4:45 PM on a Friday. A frantic message from inside the house, layered beneath static and a long, low drone. When they listen back to the call they hear the dispatcher, ever professional: “Sir, could you turn down your television? Or could you speak louder, please?” The caller responds, voice rising, and the drone rises in kind. It takes shape. The dispatcher loses their composure. “Sir, is that growling?”

Summary
Basically just a retelling of the period in episode three of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier where Bucky Barnes is forced to go undercover in Madripoor as the Winter Soldier, but from Bucky's POV/internal monologue. Plus some extra scenes I threw in for added emotional development/more angst. That's all this is it's just Bucky Barnes having PTSD, and bestie Sam Wilson trying really hard to help but being shut down immediately because Bucky is bad at talking about his feelings.
The first time I watched this episode all that I could think about was how traumatizing and distressing this whole situation had to be for him and then we see no emotional repercussions from it throughout the rest of the show so naturally I wrote some angst about it here you go enjoy the angst.

Summary
On the outs with Sam and just about everyone else after a mission gone badly wrong, Bucky travels, and wanders, and drifts right into a group of other drifters, fitted together by a shared sense of never quite fitting in anywhere else.
And a partner/coworker/guy with a mutual friend-less Sam finds himself doing some wandering too, trying to unravel the mystery of that mission gone wrong. Wondering if, by chance, his path might cross again with that former partner/coworker/guy with a mutual friend.
It does. Of course it does. It’s like gravity between them, an inexorable pull they can’t escape, no matter how hard they try.

Bucky hates this. Hates this assignment. Hates this place. Hates everything about it.
Hates that he and Sam agreed to do Rhodes a little favor, go check out a not strictly on the books government installation after the last bunch of poor saps Rhodes sent there never came back out.
Hates being in this terrible, creepy underground facility, this warped reflection of all the other terrible, creepy underground facilities he spent way too much of the past eighty years in. Hates how there’s always an unpleasant memory around the next corner. And something worse around the rest.
He hates the realization that unpleasant memories are quickly becoming the least of his problems. And he really hates the sinking feeling that they might not make it out of here intact. Or at all.
