My heart raced, a drumbeat of fear. "Jungkook... Do you think he..."
Yoongi's gaze shifted to the flowing river, his expression clouding over. "I don't know," he whispered, almost lost in thought. "But Tae... he's still waiting for him. He'll always wait, no matter what."

"The festival's tomorrow," Minji said, an oddly melodic inflection to the words. "I guess we'll have to wait and see, hmm?"
The cries of the cicadas sounded like screaming in my ears.

It was a cat, lying motionless in the middle of the road. Its fur was matted and dirty, and its eyes were open wide, staring up at the sky.
For a moment, I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The sight of the cat was like a punch to the gut, a reminder of the darkness that lurked just beneath the surface of our idyllic village.
And then, suddenly, I heard a voice behind me. "Oh god. That poor kitty."
I whirled around, my heart racing. It was Seokjin, standing a few feet away, eyes filling up with tears as he stared at the cat. The corpse.
...
I took a step closer to him, the two of us standing side by side, gazing down at the cat. "Do you think it was hit by a car?"
Seokjin shook his head. "I don't think so. There's no blood or anything. It's like... It just died."
