Summary
Kafka needs to deal with the feeling that lingers in her chest. The way it she's nearly suffocating around Himeko, as if her lungs are being crushed every time they're near each other.
She knew she wasn't over her — hell, Kafka knows she probably won't ever truly, completely get over Himeko — after all, their relationship was long and painful and full of complex feelings, and what they had can never be replicated. Random hookups can't fix the sickening feeling of love and longing that lingers in her entire body. The yearning seems unending, for someone who doesn't even want her.
But that's what she has to verify. Just one more time. She knows that Himeko hates her, knows it deep down in a very broken part of her heart, in the depths of her soul that bubbles up as cruel reminders that she will never experience something like that again. But what if she's wrong? What if things are changing, and Kafka is slowly starting to break down her walls, and Himeko is beginning to let the bitterness in her bones stop clinging to her every movement with a vice grip?

That's all Mira needs to hear. She reaches into her pants and pulls out a small pocket knife, flipping open the blade. She moves it near her neck and hovers for a moment, building anticipation and making a whine build in the back of Rumi’s throat. Then, slowly, she drags the blade around her shoulder and collarbone, just the lightest ghost of sensation. She's not even pressing down.
Still, Rumi’s breath hitches the instant the cool blade touches down on her skin, and she shivers faintly. Mira can hear her heavy breathing, and moving her free hand to her chest reveals that her heart is beating incredibly fast. But there's a flicker in her eyes, that look again, full of barely-concealed lust and a thrill that keeps her from stopping, and she can't wait to take advantage of it.
