He sets his book aside and turns fully towards her, betrayal clear on his face. "A blind date, really?"
Jon makes the frankly terrible decision to go on a blind date with one Martin Blackwood. Fate ensues. AU where Jon and Georgie are still friends, Georgie likes finding dates for her friends, Martin doesn't work at the institute, and everyone is just a bit happier while canon spooky stuff goes on in the background. Takes place juuust barely pre-canon in the beginning but catches up quickly. Inspired as usual by the wonderful conversations with my friend RavenXavier/somuchbetterthanthat.

“Do I have a name to call my new shadow?” Techno called out behind him, as he scouted the perimeter of the forest. The forest trees were thick, roots the width of his waist. Creeping vines hung above him, curling around the trunk like arms. He wondered how long they’ll be playing this game.
“Philza,” came the reply. It caught Techno off guard, and he barely caught himself from snagging his foot on a crawling end of a tree root.
Philza. A strange name. It felt ancient somehow, like when ancient text is transcribed into modern tongue.
“Are you human, Philza?”
There was no answer, and a thicker silence than before followed.
And that had been that.

Technoblade never loses, right? Technoblade never falls in battle! He's just that good.
Truth is, Technoblade never dies, because his friend (family? Father-figure?) refuses to let him stay dead.
[In which Phil is the Angel of Death, and Techno is usually pretty good at keeping himself alive during battle, except on the rare occasions where he does lose and does get heavily injured, well. Phil's got it.]

A kaleidoscope of emotions flashed through Phil's face as his breath caught in his throat. He did not expect this question to be thrown right at his face, he had no answer prepared. Thus, when he spoke, nothing but brutal, raw truth left his lips.
"I'm doing this for Will." Phil said, and something in Techno's heart did a somersault. The boy wasn't sure what he expected from the man who took him under his wings, but hearing that he was just an asset that was meant to amuse and comfort his son caused something to burn in his chest. "He's grown dependent on you, and he seeks comfort in you. I can't possibly strip him of this, especially now." the man added, and a ghost of a smirk flashed through Techno's face.
"That's good, because I'm also staying here for Wilbur only." Technoblade bit back, and it was Phil who frowned this time, displeased with the attitude the kid, shivering both from cold and lack of sleep, was giving him. "The moment your son gets better, you won't see me again."
"Good."
