Summary
Dazai's mansion was the one thing he didn't hate with a passion. It had a library and was far away from the chaos of the world, making it his favourite place for wondering about the meaning of life. Every night, he reached the same conclusion: life wasn't worth it. But for some reason, he couldn't let go. His writing career, at his own fault, ended before it even began. Lack of money and food forced him to rent a room in his mansion while he desperately searched for a reason to keep going.

Summary
There were tales about him, how he was the one to finally kill Fyodor Dostoyevsky, who was the cruelest of all pirates, and was responsible for much suffering. People talked about how Dazai became one of the most famous pirates within a year, how he searched the sea and claimed every treasure buried deep in caves, and how he was the one to finally find The Book. All of those stories were true, yet no one knew why Dazai did all these things with such a flame in his eyes, what he used The Book for, why he was covered in bandages, or what he was searching for all this time with such desperation. Some said it was obviously for power, some said for love, that there was an unknown woman who claimed his heart, and some said it was all from greed. Only Dazai knew the answer to that. Others were left to wonder, forever fearing the Captain of the Demon Prodigy.
Dazai and Chuuya meet again after four years and things don't go as Dazai planned.
