Ilya stared at the message. Rage swirled in his stomach - that Shane would run out on him like that, spend the next two months shoving his fucking girlfriend in Ilya’s face, and then text him like none of that had happened. Like none of it mattered.
Mixed in with the anger, though, and threatening to overwhelm it, was the hot burn of shame. Because Ilya was already texting back okay and putting on his shoes. Because he was fucking pathetic, and couldn’t resist.

Summary
“Daddy’s up!” Ari shrieks from somewhere nearby, startling Ed. He nearly jumps, remembering himself at the last moment, staying still enough that he doesn’t destroy his sand-tail.
An instant later, Ed has a sideways armful of his child. Ari collides with him, spilling on top of him; it takes him a second to recalibrate, but then he’s sitting on Ed’s chest, staring down at him from above with eyes that Ed had previously only seen in mirrors. He’s all smiles as he braces his tiny hands on Ed’s shoulders and leans down into his face, hair tickling his cheeks.
“Daddy,” Ari whispers loudly, the sun bright behind him. “You’re awake?”
Ed folds his arms around Ari, crushing him to his chest with a stream of squealing laughs. He gets a mouthful of hair for his efforts, but it’s worth it. “Yeah, I’m awake, squid. The fuck did you do to me?”
“I made you like me!” Ari exclaims.
