Summary
“Bout time there, sleeping beauty.”
The voice has Buck’s heart leaping as he jerks over onto his back, arms forced to be raised over his head by the restraints. He blinks at the shadowed figure leaning against the wall across from the foot of his bed.
“What the hell?” He pants, breath picking up with his heart rate.
“Mmm,” the figure hums and slowly moves into the light.
Buck’s heart stutters, his face dropping into a confused frown when a familiar face is revealed.
“Eddie?”
A sharp grin stretches across his best friend’s face.
“Not exactly.”
The warm brown of Eddie’s eyes is suddenly swallowed by pure black from corner to corner- no color, no white, all terror. Buck scrambles back, bare feet tangling in his comforter as he cowers as close to the headboard as he can get.

“Who the hell is that?”
Buck’s question has his angel frowning along with him as they both stare past the glass wall of the locker room. Bellamy kind of tunes out Bobby’s reply, gaze fixed on the newcomer. The shimmering silver cord that connects the new guy to Buck is only visible between blinks, at the edge of Bellamy’s vision like the wisps of a dream. It’s not the only thing that appears between the beats of his eyelids. The man- Eddie Diaz, apparently- once alone, now has a companion.

“So, how did you end up becoming a firefighter?” Agnes asked, leaning up against the side of the engine as she watched Buck restock after a call.
Buck could sense the implications of the question, she was asking how an omega became a firefighter, she just wasn’t allowed to outright ask.
Buck shrugged, “I was living in Peru, ended up moving here with some guys I met out there and decided to try out to become a firefighter.”
“So you just… became a firefighter?”
“Yeah, pretty much, passed with flying colours, top five in my class.” Of course Buck knew all about the stigmas surrounding omega firefighters, they were a rare breed. So the fact that Buck had not only qualified but qualified in the top five (beating multiple alphas) was practically unheard of.
Even without being able to smell the alpha he could tell that had riled her up, most alphas didn’t like the fact that he, an omega, was a better firefighter than them, and Agnes was no different.
“Wow, top five.” She got out through gritted teeth, “You must be quite something.”
