The prince took his silence as a cue to continue. “You’re not invincible, Clay.” Apparent as ever with the scars that litter the Captain’s body. Scars that he makes sure to show that extra bit of affection to, even if it takes him fifteen minutes longer. Scars that he loves because they are Dream, but scars that he hates because they shouldn’t be. “I know you don’t think the same, but you don’t have to be the one to jump in the line of fire every time.”

Summary
Everything looks prettier in the snow.
A fact that continues to prove itself every year when it comes around to wipe the world clean in a fresh blanket, posing over a landscape that doesn’t dare to be seen again until it is eventually washed over by the forgiving sun.
And George can’t help but notice how impossibly prettier his freckled, sunny boy looks standing under the white flurries that fall perfectly onto his features, caressing them with the careful touch of a lover. A sight for sore eyes indeed. Like this, George thinks, everything is just perfect.
But the winter is cold. And bitter.

“So then why the fuck are you here?!” Dream asked exasperatedly, throwing his hands in the air.
“To end this!” George yelled, motioning to the air between them. “To end it all. I can’t do this anymore.” He spoke, his voice falling at the end.
Dream walked up to him, pointing a finger to his chest. “You did that a year ago.” He motioned to the space between them. “This? There is no this. You made sure of that. Remember?”

The robin that flew over our heads but a minute past. The dream he had last night of a ship with purple sails, its prow slicing the waves of the Aegean sea. The wooden amulet that hangs about the augur's neck. This and this and this.
"I'll be the first hero to be happy," he would tell me years later. "You're the reason."

“That’s why this,” George gestures to the two of them, to the way they’re holding each other, to the bathtub, to his wine glass, “is what we need, what I want. Now. I want us now. I want this now. I don’t need you to stop your life to fix this because that means it’s temporary, and I want us forever.”
“You and I and now,” Dream murmurs, pulls him closer to his chest, splashes water between them until they run a chill.
“That’s why you should kiss me here. We should love in these moments, where we are. No stopping time to do things like that,” George tells him. “Fuck me in this bathroom, show me how much now means to you, Dream. To us.”
Dream doesn’t hesitate.
