A fat raindrop splashes on Mike’s cheek, slips down his face and down his chin; falls on his neck to disappear inside his damp shirt. Leaves behind the scorching trail of Will’s gaze on his skin.
Mike tightens his grip on the soda cans when Will’s adam’s apple bobs up and down, considers closing his eyes and tipping his head back, let the tepid rain speck his face, soak him to the bone.
A kiss in the rain would be romantic, right? Date appropriate.

“Well,” Will says, heart still hammering in his chest. He tries for a smile, but he’s not sure he quite manages it. “No one else is offering.”

Summary
Mike nods solemnly. “This isn’t my first rodeo,” he says.
“No,” Will agrees, letting out a little laugh, “it’s – what, your third today?”
“Aw, you remembered,” Mike says, his hand coming up to rest on his chest, right over his heart.
“You’re hard to forget,” Will replies, and before Mike even has the opportunity to feel some type of way over that comment, Will continues, “or, more accurately — your guests are hard to forget.”
“Right,” Mike says quickly, not at all petulantly, because of course that’s what Will meant. That’s what they’re here for, after all — their guests. Not whatever sick satisfaction Mike gets from having to come in here every forty some-odd minutes, tail between his legs, to bother Will into doing his dirty work.
Mike has had a rollercoaster of a day. All he wants is a nap.

Summary
“Will? Will Byers?” The edge of a face comes into view as the car’s obnoxiously tinted windows get rolled down, all black hair and wide eyes and confused, furrowed brows.
Will, to his dismay, recognizes the face immediately.
“It’s Mike,” Mike Wheeler adds, rather unnecessarily. “From camp.”
From camp, as if Mike hadn’t–
“Hi,” Will says anyway, because being wet and soggy and stranded on the side of the road kind of limits his leeway for snark. He shifts in his soaking wet shoes, glances up at the thundering sky, and thinks about how much he hates his life. “Yeah. It’s me.”
Will's a good person, really. But apparently the universe thinks otherwise. Why else would it send him a broken down car, a dead phone, a thunderstorm, and Mike Wheeler (and Mike Wheeler's horrendous Tesla) all in the same afternoon?

Summary
A certain scene from the movie popped up, causing Will’s mouth to drop open and for his eyes to widen as he soaked in what was on the TV.
Of all the scenes in the movie, Mike had returned The Outsiders paused during the few, brief seconds when Sodapop was getting out of the shower in the background of the shot. Sodapop haphazardly covered himself with a towel, and then wrapped the towel just, like, stupidly low around his hips, his chest still wet and bare from the shower.

Will’s breath catches but he doesn’t move - the two singular taps might just be an accident, after all. It’s not like Mike’s ever had the chance to learn morse code. Not like Will did - with his drunk dad sitting at the table and the only open way of communicating with his mom being by small sounds left on the wood.

Will feels sick. He tries to tear his hand away, but Mike doesn’t let go - clearly determined to finish the sequence.

Their eyes finally connect, as Mike lets go of Will’s hand.
Will’s voice is faint and in contrast with white lights surrounding them, flickering lightly, as if in mockery. As if witnessing the end of it all.

Summary
It takes one, two, three seconds before Will’s heart starts beating again. And another three before he remembers to be mad at him about it. “Don’t call me that,” he protests weakly, but it’s no use. Mike’s grin only grows.
“Anything for you, Your Highness.”
“Michael,” Will hisses, yanking his hand away, but Mike is already laughing. It’s always been easy to get a rise out of him where Mike is involved, which is a fact Mike not only knows, but exploits on the regular. “I’m going to put the venom back in your arm and let your flesh rot off your body.”
Will really wishes Mike would learn that armor does not equate to invincibility. For Mike's own sake, it's probably a good thing Will knows magic.

The boy regards Mike for a moment, trailing his eyes over his face with an intensity that warms his cheeks, “D’Artagnan will not harm you,” the boy says gravely.
Mike’s cheeks redden further, caught off guard, “What?”
The boy frowns glancing quickly at the shield before meeting Mike’s eyes once more, “The dragon. D’Artagnan will not harm you,” and then as if he had not just said the most insane thing he possibly could, “but I suggest you set up your camp in a safe location anyways. The woods can be dangerous at night.”

“You’re thinking,” Will says, skating a finger down the line of Mike’s nose, under his eye, over his cheekbone, then resting, finally, just at the corner of his lips– “about me.”
Oh, Jesus. Mike’s throat is very, very dry. “What?”
Will opens his eyes – slow, a little hesitant – and smiles. “You are,” he says, way, way too smug for Mike’s liking. “You’re turning red!”
“Shut up,” Mike mutters, and Will’s smile grows. “You– I’m just nervous!”
It should be illegal for someone to look this pleased with themselves. “Yeah?” Will says quietly, index finger still hovering at the corner of Mike’s mouth, thumb pressed gently under his chin. “I make you nervous?”
Mike thinks Will might be psychic. (Kind of.) Will is being very irritatingly vague about the whole thing.

“I don’t think that it has to mean that you’re into guys,” Lucas says. His words are accompanied by a casual shrug, and said in the tone of someone who has clearly already given this subject some thought. Will doesn’t know what to do with that information. Jump from a building, maybe. “I mean, we’d all get flustered if Spider-Man carried us in his arms.”
Mike points to him enthusiastically. “Thank you, Lucas.”
Dustin looks between the two of them, his eyes narrowed.
“...Would we?”
“Sure,” Mike concludes. “He’s attractive. That’s not a weird thing to think.”
Will just barely resists the urge to bang his head against the table. He feels Dustin’s eyes glued to his burning face, and sinks even further down his chair.
In which Mike tells Spider-Man that he has a crush on his best friend, and Will jumps to some very wrong conclusions.

A chorus of shouting begins in the distance, so far removed from the two of them it could just be the river winding its way through the forest beside them. Will closes his eyes, pretends it’s the brook and he’s buried far, far away from everyone except Mike, and when he opens them again Mike is still there and the rest of the world’s population is not.
