Maelle took over the Canvas, which Verso has several issues with. 1) He's still alive, 2) Maelle won't leave, 3) he has complicated feelings for a man he let die, 4) that man has been resurrected and fucking hates him, and 5) that man has been showing up at his house uninvited when he's fucked up. He really didn't think he'd be alive to face the consequences of his actions, but he is. The guilt has hardened into a pit which has taken up permanent residency in his chest. Unfortunately, he has no option but to keep going.

“Twenty years,” Fury says slowly, taking special care to imbue each word with his personal brand of bone-chilling judgement. It used to make Bucky quiver in his boots back when he was a baby S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. “In that time, I have asked, threatened, coaxed, and damn near begged this man to work for us, or at least with us, and what finally gets it done is your dick?”
“Ass.”
“Excuse me?”
“Listen, I’m not saying any part of my anatomy is what persuaded Commander Rogers to agree to this, but hypothetically, if that’s what did it, let’s just say he would have found my ass far more persuasive than my dick.” Bucky pauses, secretly relishing the sour-lemon look on Fury’s face. “It still hurts, in case you’re wondering.”

It’s mid-morning when they stumble inside and knock themselves into the door frame, mostly because the opening isn’t really wide enough for the two of them to go through at the same time. There isn’t even need for them to do so, since Steve could walk perfectly well on his own despite the three (or maybe four) broken ribs and the kneecap that probably isn’t quite where it should be. Nothing the serum won’t fix in a day or three. Bucky didn’t listen to him though, not that Steve really expected him to, and supported Steve back to their apartment from the street.
Some unavoidable post-mission care taking, featuring grumpy Bucky and Steve who finds some things entirely too hilarious.
