"Are you cold?" Henry asked.
Without armor, in hose and gambeson, he was still an imposing figure: tall and broad, hands stained with dirt and blood, jaw stubbornly stiff. His bare feet were a shock of white in the dirt. He held his helm with both hands, embracing the metal into his belly. His hair was damp with sweat. There was another string of bruises on his throat, shaped like two wide thumbs.
Hans looked away. The tunic around Henry's knee had darkened. Blood was trickling into the dirt.
Hans kills a man, prepares for a wedding, and tries to do at least one thing right.
(Or: five times Hans and Henry didn't share a bed, and one time they did.)

“Kind,” Hans finally settles on, weakly.

The hard part came with the world outside of his mind and all the rules that had to be followed. He had to survive and to take joy from living. Astarion found himself watching Gale more than he was watching Dirty Dancing. He looked quite young to be getting divorced, he thought to himself. The gossip in him was dying to know the full story, but he knew full well that it would be really stupid to start prying into a practical stranger’s personal life.
As he was about to ask, because fuck it, he was probably never seeing this man again, Gale reached below his seat and grabbed a notebook and pen from a satchel. A satchel. The man was going on what amounted to a mid life crisis of a holiday (or, to be fairer to him, a third of a life crisis, because he looked to be about Astarion’s age), and he’d brought a satchel?!

He wants to do his job, do his best to bully his brain into submission each night so he can get a good night's sleep, and stay firmly under everyone's radar. He does not want to work with his irritatingly cheery and dull colleague - Gale Dekarios - on a stupid and meaningless project.
Alas, the universe - or at least Blackstaff Academy - has different ideas.
OR: Gale and Astarion are both tired, traumatised, and undervalued teachers at Blackstaff Academy and, eventually, Gale worms his way under every single one of Astarion's defences.
