Summary
Simon used to love hotels.
They were memorialized to him: Nights sneaking through carpeted hallways that ate up the noise of he and Clary’s footsteps in their rush to meet each other during school trips. The overhead lights illuminating just the top of Clary’s hair, her sunburnt back, and her shining white teeth. And then the sun would rise, and he and Clary would pack themselves into the school bus with everyone else. They would fall asleep on each other's shoulders as they drove away and left it all behind, so tired in the morning that the night could be classed away as a fever dream they’d shared.
Now Simon lives in a hotel.
And it’s funny because Clary doesn’t understand what it’s like to live in a hotel.

It’s too much and not enough. Whitaker nods anyway. When he nods too much he feels like a novelty bobblehead on somebody’s dashboard, which is to say, ornamental and a hazard. He tries for wry and lands on damp. “I wasn’t spying,” he says. “I was, technically, trespassing.”
“On your own hospital?”
“It doesn’t feel like mine yet.”
Robby makes a small noise behind his teeth. Then he unzips the hoodie, shrugs out of it in that absent, practised way he has with kit and moral limits, and drapes it around Whitaker’s shoulders in a single, unarguable movement. The heat of it embarrasses Whitaker – it’s the narrowness of the interval between Robby’s body and his – somewhere between intimacy and loan agreement.

And that’s unexpected. Even more unexpected is the way Nam-gyu sees Thanos react to being put on blast like this: gaze drawn down and looking to either side, self-conscious.
Not as perfect of a life as Nam-gyu imagined for him, it seems.
Nam-gyu and Thanos just keep running into one another.

Summary
He is addicted to the pills, that's the only reason. The reason Nam-gyu is always within arm's length of the cross, stays close to his team, acts this possessive. It's a mere coincidence the pills are attached to Thanos, honestly, that doesn't have anything to do with his behavior.
A few times Nam-gyu reaches out for the cross, and the day he doesn't.
