He grimaces, scratching the back of the neck. “I slept at some point, probably.”
“For longer than twenty minutes?”
“Don’t tease me about my insomnia, MJ.”
The smile threatening to envelope her face drops, afraid she’s pushed a nerve she didn’t know existed until she spots the sparkle of humour in his dark eyes.
Then, with a courage that impresses her as much as it floors her, he presses forward and steps a little too close to say, “Sleeping with you was the best sleep I’ve gotten in years.”
Her lungs forget how to process oxygen.

Like he’s hydrogen and she’s oxygen and once there’s a spark, they’ll explode into a fire that they’ll never be able to put out.
When he texts all of this to Ned, his phone immediately lights up with a response of: DUDE. Seriously? Can u 2 just bone already?

And she hates how her heart leaps in her chest and her stomach flips, filling with butterflies a moment later. She hats how four words from her best friend and she’s reduced to nothing but a mess. MJ presses her lips together, trying in vain to smother the smile. She hates him. Hates him so much, for having this power over her. It’s so stupid.
So stupid. Feelings for your best friend are just stupid.
