Mack does not see it; he just hears it. Which is likely for the best because the sound was awful– he can’t imagine the look.
When he does finally look, Will is crumpled on the ice. His back is to the boards, and his face is facing out, completely lifeless. The whole arena disappears around him as he skates to Will. He’s the first one there.
“Will!” He calls out. Then again when he gets no response. “Cmon Will, wake up,” he pleads.
He only looks away from his man to make sure the medical staff are on the way, and thankfully they are sliding down the ice.

“What do you want, Mack,” Will whispered. Mack wrenched his head to the side, his body bracketed by the warmth of Will’s arms against the wall. “What are you telling me?”
“Nothing!” Mack grit out. Will huffed in response, unconvinced.
Seconds passed with only the sounds of heavy breathing. The crushing pressure eased. Mack opened his eyes to Will looking down on the floor instead of back at him, and let his gaze rest on the divot on Will’s head, where his hair thinned and gave way to flushed scalp.
Will raised his head slowly, catching Mack’s gaze with red-rimmed intensity that Mack had only ever seen when Will swallowed his dick down. He was suddenly terrified of making this boy cry.
Will was the mirror image of every girl he’d ever desperately wanted.

He looks over, squinting in the dark. Will is still there, bundled up and facing the wall. His hoodie has bunched up slightly, the collar of it sitting right beneath his soft pink lips. Mack can't see clearly in the dark of the room, but his eyes fight to trace up the slope of Will's nose.
The guilt comes, like most bad things do, all at once. It's suffocating and all-consuming and so rightfully deserved.

Someone shushes them. Will opens his mouth, prepared to tear into his audacious teammate - Macklin's health and well-being should be *everyone's* top priority. But then he hears it, and everything clicks into place.
Fuck.
Even Will is rendered speechless by Mack’s impassioned singing. If he didn’t know better, he’d wholeheartedly believe his best friend wrote this song based on his own life experiences.
