For a moment, he’s back in the hospital with his head throbbing and immense pain coursing through his veins, his lungs on the verge of collapse, his body begging for it all to end. He’s tired, so tired. Tired of not knowing anything, tired of the constant aches, tired of trying to find himself with nothing to show.
“I don’t understand.” His voice, over the flames and screams in his head, comes out quiet. He’s not sure if he even said the words out loud or if he merely moved his lips, mute with nothing but ragged breath escaping.
A strong arm pulls him back into the priest’s warm chest.
“You reek of monkey.”Temporary amnesia due to severe trauma. It’s all the doctor can tell Satoru when he wakes up bloodied and bruised with no ID on him and no fingerprints matching any record. Plagued with the idea that his life must have been meaningless if no one is even looking for him, Satoru finds himself in front of a buddhist temple that proves him otherwise. As the haze around his memories clears, the guesses of who did this to him and why turn muddier and muddier.

The door slides open and he looks up from his little book to the large shadow that falls over him. It’s not been long enough yet that he can fully stop himself from expecting to see hair that’s as dark as his own and not a shade of white, or dark, forest green eyes, instead of this vivid aquamarine blue.
It has been long enough that Megumi knows better than to feel bad about it. Childishly, suddenly, he thinks, My eyes are blue too. Not green.
Or, lived dreams, two halves of a whole memory, and what it takes to build a family from the bones of a home.

Satoru and Suguru try their best to sort out their broken pieces. They're incredibly, fallibly, human.
(OR: 11+k words of Geto realizing he's thirsty, Gojo realizing he's not immune to feelings, and both of them being far too young to parent ten year olds.)
