it's a bit of a struggle finding such long and well thought out fics for the secret history, nevermind winterpapen, so you know I LOVEEEE this. and it's a slow burn in the sense that we have 11 chapters, 45000 words yet they have shared ONE KISS. the characters, dynamics, chef kiss. could not have done any better I love you author 💗

“You okay? You look ghostly. No offence.”
Henry hasn’t even noticed him yet, or he’s being his usual self and calculating when to “notice” Richard so it works to the best of his advantage. Probably the latter. His ex doesn’t look all that different. He still has those square, black glasses that have never seen a smudge in their lives. His face is smooth and pale, no patchy stubble like Richard - he always did seem to appear eerily well kept. His hands, wide and veiny, sport two silver rings. His shoulders are still broad, his frame impossibly sturdier. Unfairly, he suffers no eye bags, not a pimple to be seen or even any redness. Richard feels a pang of hatred.
“No, no. I’m not okay.” He whispers, all the breath knocked out of him.
Or
The ex au that actually nobody asked for and yet I delivered. None of the events that happen in the original source material/book happen in this universe.

beautiful writing and characterization. I've never read the goldfinch but I still understand almost everything and nothing seemed out of place. Richard and Francis being together purely out of spite and convenience is perfect and I adore all the small details that just make so much sense. author did so much while hardly using any words. will definitely be rereading this in the future ! <333

“So, anything crazy happen while I was away?”
Light is horribly confused. He shakes his head, and his voice comes out slurred. “Why would anything crazy happen?”
“My name’s Ryuzaki,” the man says, ignoring his question. “Yours?”
“Light Yagami,” he replies, and sets his newly filled cup of jungle juice down. He decides then and there that this man will be who he spends time with tonight in order to look normal, and then scrunches his eyebrows together because he actually remembers deciding that a few minutes ago. “This is the first time in my whole life that I have ever drank alcohol,” he tells Ryuzaki, and once the words leave his mouth, he realizes that they sound like the stupidest words that have ever been uttered in the history of words.
Or, Light Yagami realizes that a smart enough person could potentially see through his fake persona at the same time that he realizes that normal college students go to parties on occasion. There is only so much that one can do to pretend to be normal besides actually doing what normal people do. He discovers that it's quite difficult to act properly when you're drunk, and that maybe Ryuzaki isn’t who he says he is.

Bunny shivered, thinking of those pockmarked craters in the moon, circular like gun wounds. For a mad, feverish moment, he imagined himself hauling the gun from its holder, the metal cold and slick beneath his hands, and running into the woods, screaming. He’d twist one foot into the damp forest floor, pivot and shoot randomly into the trees, bullets pinging off tree trunks, the gun juddering at each teeth-chattering pop of the trigger.

The most perfect lawlight Christmas fic filled with so much fluff. It actually made me so giggly when they were talking to each other. The way the author writes L's thoughts and expresses their weird relationship is just so aushhshshsjsisjsjsnjskow I love this so much, I will be reading it every chrismas thank you. Currently recommending this to everyone I know.
