He glances back at the picture of Charles on his phone — his features softening briefly because it’s Charles — before tucking it back in his pocket to glare at his so-called friends.
“Well, you’re a little bit of an asshole, mate,” Lando says, ever so blunt. He gives Max a brief once over, his brows knitting in what looked to be extreme confusion and even a little judgement before he continues, “And, no offence, but he looks a little too out of your league.”

Winter Break 2023.
He is still him, sharp jaw, straight nose and doe eyes, Max thinks, and he still has this weird undying faith in his godforsaken team-and at what cost.
He's close enough now, more than he has been since the last race had ended a few weeks earlier in Abu Dhabi, but perhaps he'd been on too much of a high during this record breaking season of his to notice the sullen, almost robotic face expressions Charles wears and the way his smile never seem to reach his eyes anymore these days.
Or maybe he's just that way when Max is around.
In the end, it doesn't really matter, what Charles thinks of him, and if he is suffering.

Summary
Max’s eyes narrow, staring at Charles’ intently, though he’s unsure what he’s searching for. A trace of humor, maybe; something that yells I’m obviously joking, you idiot and calms his now racing pulse. But all he finds is seriousness, an abyss in the midst of Charles’ emeralds so profound that Max’s not sure whether to be terrified or allured.
“And how…” He begins, slow. Calculated. Charles' gaze doesn’t change the slightest. “How the fuck would we do that?”
“I mean, just like this,” Charles bites his bottom lip. “We race. We go to dinner. Whoever won gets to propose.”
And that’s—
That’s the biggest load of bullshit Max has ever heard.

“No! He goes there with a hoodie and a backpack, he’s probably on his way home or something! Could you imagine? Spiderman could actually live in the flats opposite us!” Lando exclaimed, turning his head to the window and he could slightly see the same building. The world now becoming suffocated by the increasing darkness, the sunset long gone.
Oscar pinched the bridge of his nose, “I think you’re reading into this way too much, mate.”

Lando is obsessed with the friendly-neighbourhood Spiderman and Oscar is his good best friend that listens.

Pascale looks at him. For a moment it is an odd look. But that quickly melts into a smile. One that is gentle around the eyes, and soft on the mouth. Somehow, it makes Charles feel young again — younger than how he already feels; twenty-one in a world where he is twenty-five.
“You don’t have to imagine it, mon garçon,” she says quietly. “It has already happened.”
