Reigen has never told anyone about it—not even in passing, not while drunk or tired or too upset to care, not as an icebreaker or as a sometimes-I-hurt-too outstretched hand of sympathy. Twenty years he’s kept it locked away like an old family heirloom and now he’s presented it to Mob like a pathetic, poor dowry, dusty and frayed and aged, sickly-yellow.
Mob. He’d almost forgotten. Before this Mob had been staring at him with barely-contained curiosity and enthusiasm. Now that expression wilts, melting like sugar in a hot pan, and Reigen has never seen anything so gut-wrenching. Now Mob slowly sits back, slowly pulls his hands into his own lap, and slowly blinks. "... What?"

Oh, Reigen mused, eyeing the large hands encircling his wrists.
This couldn’t be happening to him. He was losing control of the situation, and it was only now that Reigen realized he couldn’t remember the last time a client had laid their hands on him.
Distantly, in the back of his mind, he knew the reason.
It was all because of Mob, his sweet and kind disciple, who always intervened when Reigen was being threatened. Stepping between anyone or anything, Mob deemed a threat to Reigen.
Reigen had failed to treasure the protection Mob had offered him so selflessly—too caught up in his own schemes or cons to appreciate everything Mob did for him.
He really had taken advantage of Mob’s kindness, hadn’t he?
With Mob chased off by his lies, Reigen stood no chance against the monster he found at his doorstep.
Or in which an old client of Reigen’s gets revenge during the separation arc.

the angst in this is OBSCENELY GOOD. it’s that kind of sadness where it gives you stabbing pain in the chest, that makes you get heat flashes through your skin and gives you goosebumps
insane good angst. hurts so good when reading it
then it gets fluffy and i love it too. reigen was a lot more uhhh fragile slash yn sorta vibe but tbh he was spiraling so idk
either way this fic is GOOD. like genuinely, loved plot loved the recovery loved the angst, beautiful everything
and also was best angst id read in ages. didn’t think id get that stabbing type of angst anywhere soon. so hard to find in fandoms but ts one was good

sigh
i love reading fics like these. absolute hidden gems.
this fic was perfect. emotionally, progression, characterisation, everything. the way pining and guilt and love and everything in between was written. this is rlly one of them gold fics that have a vibe you find nowhere else. add some music to it and it’s like you’re in another world.
anyway, this was written beautifully. both the first and second fic. genuine solid 10/10
