    What were the stages of grief again?

    Denial, Jax remembers. He knows that one. It’s the first on the list, the one that clues people in that it’s developing grief in the first place. Not that he’s grieving. That was silly. And a straight up delusional take on his situation. He doesn’t grieve.

    The dead can’t speak, the guilty don’t deserve to. Pomni has Thoughts™ and makes it Jax’s whole problem.

    Cazador, as he always was, is unamused by his antics. But that doesn’t mean amusement has deserted him completely. He stands in the middle of the hallway, eyes aglow with a very, very dangerous light. A visual hallucination, surely. His former master is dead. He has been dead. Astarion dragged his body out from the crypt and destroyed it himself. Wyll was there then and he is here now.

    But when he looks, Wyll is not standing where he should be, or even kneeling or sitting with that sure and careful hand holding his aching sides.

    (Astarion returns to his former home, triumphant and healed from his centuries of torture. He should have known better than to think he would leave its walls unscathed twice.)
