In any other circumstance, the teddy bear would have been thrown out with the rest of the trash without a single thought.
And yet.
And yet.
She's seen how desperately that poor little girl clutched this toy to her chest - the kid brought into the lab not more than a month ago. The one who could not have been more than eight years old. The one currently at the center of a small SHIELD side project, the subject of an in-depth "research" on the "unrealized effects of quantum exposure on biological beings," which was, in truth, an excuse to study the child who could, theoretically, walk through walls whenever she wants to.
The one who's got her tiny face and both her hands pressed against the glass chamber wall now, eyes searching frantically for her teddy bear friend.
Back then, when she was dragged here, the toy in her arms appeared whole.

Bucky, however, doesn't sleep. He just lies there, fingers tangled in her hair the way they both liked it, staring up at the ceiling and waiting for the sky outside his window to change colors from black to blue to finally, orange.
Despite her words, the fear in his chest never really went away. More than once, before this team, before her, he'd woken with his metal hand closed around the nearest object it found - sometimes a pillow, sometimes the edge of the bed, sometimes the floorboard - his fingers curled around it the way it would around a vulnerable, snappable neck, just squeezing, just holding on tight, and it took him several minutes to reorient himself and allow his hand to finally, finally let go.

He'd just handed over the target to the authorities when the team's private comms channel lit up.
For a moment, Bucky just stared at it. No one uses this particular line unless there is a serious emergency. Unless one of them was practically on death’s door. Even his team of skilled idiots wasn't stupid enough to clog it with noise when it's reserved for a very specific reason. That's why, thankfully, it hadn't been used in years.
And now it was ringing. Nonstop.
Which meant--
He’d steeled himself before replying, "What is it?"
"Bucky," Yelena's voice comes in, loud and composed, "do not panic."
Absolutely the wrong thing to say to a person they don't want panicking, by the way.
He turned away from the men talking behind him and asked, "What the hell happened?"
Yelena sighed. "You will not like this, but… I'm just gonna say it, then. It's... It's Ava.” She paused for a moment. "She got hurt."

At the far end of the corridor, near a huge window that offered a view of the city outside, stood the Avenger's resident Ghost. She isn't doing anything outside of just standing there, really. Arms loosely folded in the middle, eyes on an outdoor scene that seemed to interest her way more than whatever was happening behind her in the ballroom.
And to be fair to her, she wasn't exactly missing out on anything.
Bucky pauses.
This is where he should leave her alone. He'd done his part; he'd already seen for himself that she was fine, that she hadn't yet left. She clearly sought this place out because she wanted solitude, not spotlight. Which was very... understandable.
Very Ava.
Still, his feet refused to move.
And then she must have felt his attention because she turned sharply, her expression softening just the slightest bit when she realized who was looking at her.
"Oh," she says, voice low. "Hey."
Taking that as an invitation, Bucky moves closer to the window - to her - and replies, just as low, "Hey."

If there was one thing Robert “Bob” Reynolds was terrified of, it was unintentionally hurting Yelena one day due to his powers. It resided over everything, including death and his doomsday brain that he was never good enough for anything.
And then, the ugly, gnawing promise proved him right when a mission went rogue—when he let his recklessness and ‘high’ of finally becoming a hero become the catalyst for her blood on his hands.
So, he decided it would be best for everyone if he kept himself locked up in a maximum-security cell, placed in a stasis pod, so that he would never hurt Yelena or any other person again. Except that Yelena has a very different opinion on that matter.
Or: After a mission gone rogue, Bob decided it was best to lock himself in a stasis pod until they could truly put an end to his miserable existence, but Yelena thinks otherwise.

It was supposed to be a harmless “get out of jail” free card because the former Winter Soldier lets Ava get away with every single thing (very biased, not fair at all), so why can’t she and the others all utilize it?
She should've known it was only a matter of time before the house of cards collapsed.
Or: Yelena and the team decided to blame everything on Ava because Bucky always let her get away with it due to his big, fat crush…until it came back to bite them all in the ass (except for Bob).

Summary
A series of "one-shots" for de-aged Yelena, Bob, and Ava accordingly. All of them can be read as standalones without needing to read the "main one," or in a specific reading order, but they do require knowledge of "Thunderbolts," "Dr. Strange," and "Ant-Man" to enjoy thoroughly.
Currently, as of January 2026, there are NO plans to make a de-aged "one-shot" for Alexei, Bucky, or Walker. I'm not sure what I'd want the premise/plot to be about, but this may change in the future if I get a stroke of inspiration.
