Tommy sat down heavily on the worn chair furthest from the muted TV and called Howie.
“Hey, Tommy! What’s up? Don’t tell me you’re bailing on our game today?” Howie’s voice was bright and laid-back. Tommy could hear Jee-Yun babbling in the background and the cheery sounds of a toy or cartoon keeping her entertained.
“No, I mean–” Tommy stopped and started again. “I’m at the hospital.”
The flip switched in Howie, going from laid-back-morning to on-the-job serious. “Oh shit. Is it for you or Buck?”
“It’s Evan.”
