This fic follows the events of a previous work, A Window of Silk and Paper.
The Yiling Laozu has been resurrected in a new body. The Sects are scrambling to pick up the pieces after the death of the Chief Cultivator. Reunited, with their true feelings revealed to one another, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have returned together to Gusu.

“Ah, Lan Zhan! You’re here before me, very—”
“Boots.” Lan Zhan rarely interrupts, but this time it’s deliberate, so Wei Ying understands the seriousness. But Wei Ying is stubborn, too.
“Oh, so commanding! You know I like when you order me around.” He toes off his boots and heads for the other side of the table.
“No. Here.” Wangji moves aside to make room and Wei Ying drops into a graceless sprawl beside him. Until Wangji looks at him, which gets him to straighten up. Wangji pours liquor for Wei Ying and tea for himself. Takes small, measured sips, placing his teacup down each time Wei Ying’s cup empties. Then Wangji refills it. He permits one soft and sweet kiss—okay, two—and once the pot of liquor is empty, he lovingly, and firmly, places Wei Ying’s head in his lap.
“Speak.”
“Ah, Lan Zhan, I don’t want to talk! It’s just so nice to just sit here, isn’t—”
“Speak.”
