Summary
A series of snapshots into Alex Rider's close relationships with the ex-Nightshade children (Freddy Grey, Sofia Jones, William Jones) after they are all rescued and un-brainwashed. The nature of their relationships is very emotionally and physically intimate with lots of hugs and kisses (no sex), blurring the line between siblings and lovers. They all mean the world to one other and love one other very, very much without any jealousy between them. I have been shipping Alex/Freddy/Sofia very hard ever since finishing Nightshade, and just really love the idea of Alex finally having friends who know what it's like to be in his shoes, inspired by this passage from Nightshade:
It occurred to Alex that perhaps he wasn’t so very different from them. They had been brainwashed to become killers. Although they hadn’t been aware of it, they’d never had a choice. MI6 might think of themselves as “the good guys.” It was true they were protecting the country. But at the end of the day, their methods were hardly any better than Nightshade. They had taken over Alex’s life without asking him.
