It's like a frog is caught in Makoto's throat. She doesn't want to worry Yuzuki, or make her think she's mad at her. She really isn't. It's just that it's difficult to form words—when Yuzuki's nails tend to graze the nape of her neck like this, and they sit so close on her bed, and Yuzuki handles her hair with just the right amount of pressure, pulling it taut but loose enough that she wouldn't get a headache.
And God, Makoto likes having her hair played with. Only if it's Yuzuki, though, if she's being honest.
Makoto realizes that she is the frog caught in her own throat.

He’d seen Tohru rock gently on her feet, leaning up to look Kyo in the eye, caught in some magnetism he inspired. Sometimes he’d been certain they were about to kiss, Kyo moving closer to achieve a balance Yuki figured was key. He was always off balance. If someone ever wanted to kiss him, Yuki figured they’d sense this imbalance and give up before anything began.

Dee is hell-bent on winning and not even remotely above cheating.
